The Fear Factor (Continued)

Hello everyone –

This week we’ll continue with Thupten Jinpa’s  A Fearless Heart  to the end of Chapter 3. Jinpa wraps up the chapter by looking at how we can begin transform our experience of the world through conscious effort. He quotes the Buddha, “With our thoughts, we make the world.”

We’ll spend most of our time discussing how we shape our world with our thoughts. Our perceptions and autopilot judgments influence our experiences. If we perceive the world as a dangerous and threatening place, we’ll filter our experiences through that lens and then behave accordingly. We can consciously shift that lens and our behavior to a basis of compassion and kindness.

The chapter ends with a brief overview of how mindfulness practice can help us begin to reshape those old perceptions.  We’ll end there, as Jinpa sets up Chapter 4 on training our minds and hearts.

In Tuere’s absence this week, I’ll do my best to facilitate our group. I am grateful for the opportunity and look forward to seeing you all on Thursday.

  1. I miss you guys. I have been reading the book at home, as my number finally came up from the library. I can’t put weight on my broken foot for 3 months so I’m not sure when I’ll make it back there.
    Namaste,
