This week we’ll take a look at the second Brahma Vihara – Compassion. Compassion is what arises when we turn metta towards suffering. It isn’t something we can make arise. We can’t make ourselves more compassionate. We cultivate compassion by connecting to suffering.
We have talked a lot about the natural tendency of humans to push away what we don’t like and cling to want we like. Human beings also have a natural capacity to handle difficult, challenging and extremely hard situations. We do this through Compassion. Our problem lies to our habitual tendency to push away before Compassion can arises.
This Thursday we’ll explore how trust and patience can help us connect more with our natural capacity for Compassion.
