Dependent Origination

The focus of our study for the next month will be Dependent Origination.

Dependent Origination is a Buddhist teaching on the nature of existence — nothing exists independently of other things.

The Buddha said there are twelve links (nidanas) in the “chain” of Dependent Origination. Dependent Origination is the Buddhist teaching on how things come to be, are, and cease to be. According to this teaching, no beings or phenomena exist independently of other beings and phenomena.

Last Thursday Tuere gave us a great intro talk on the subject and some homework for the month:

Pick a habit to watch that we do often.
Tuere asked us to pay attention to our habit, not to stop doing it but just to be with it, to be aware of it and to watch ourselves doing this habitual behavior over and over.

Since Tuere is on retreat this week and won’t be here on Thursday,
Uli will be leading the meeting and bring a recorded talk on DO.

Here are some resources:

See you Thursday, be well, be happy.
